Turpin's boys soccer team flexed its muscle on the state scene a year ago and reached as high as No. 6 in the Ohio coaches’ poll. The club also spent few weeks ranked as the top Division I team in greater Cincinnati. Head coach Jamie Harloff and the Spartans graduated 12 seniors from that squad, but Turpin should still be a force with the return of a strong junior class.
One of those juniors, Josh McDaniel, was fourth in the FAVC East Division with 12 goals last fall.
McDaniel is one of five returning starters, according to Harloff. Forward/defender Trevor Thompson, defender Ben Hogan and midfielders Tim Dulle and Adam Kupferberg should have the Spartans in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference hunt.
Turpin kicks off the season at Mariemont Aug. 18. The Spartans return home and square off against Madeira Aug. 20.
