Entering into Week 5’s game against West Clermont, the Spartans were still looking for their first win of the 2022 season. The Wolves entered with a 2-2 record and a much improved roster. The game figured to be a close encounter, but the big homecoming crowd saw the Wolves score on their first play of the game when freshman Chris Henry Jr caught a short pass, broke a tackle and ran 62 yards for the touchdown.

After both teams went 3 and out, the Wolves put together a sustained 80 yard drive, scoring on a quick 3 yard TD pass pushing the lead out to 14-0. The Spartans then showed some life putting together a sustained drive of their own ending with a 4 yard Clark Helgason touchdown run and a 14-6 score, after a missed point after attempt. West Clermont then took control of the game with a pair of scoring drives, pushing the lead out to 28-6. Turpin’s next drive saw a Helgason 60 yard run called back on a holding call. West Clermont then put the finishing touch on the half with a 5th first half score,

after a Turpin turnover, pushing the half time lead  to 35-6.

Turpin had two major highlights to open the second half. Mickey Abbatiello took the opening kickoff back 85 yards for a touchdown to re-energize the Spartan crowd. At that point Turpin athletics history was made as freshman Addi Braun became the first female to score in a varsity football game when she converted on the point after, making the score 35-13. West Clermont deflated the crowd with a pair of 3rd quarter scores pushing the lead out to 50-13 as the third quarter came to a close. Clark Helgason finished his very productive night with a 65 yard TD reception from Devin Nigam, with Addi Braun adding her second PAT of the evening, closing out the scoring on a 50-20 Wolves victory.

Sounding like a broken record, this game again saw a lot of solid efforts in the loss, but again several untimely mistakes and some key missed tackles led to the big win for West Clermont. Turpin looks to turn around the season next Friday at home vs. Lebanon and put up their first win of the season.
