Girls Varsity Winning Streak

Posted on: October 21, 2021

We have a winning streak!  Turpin ended the month of September with a 2-0 victory at home against Little Miami, then started the month of October with a 4-0 victory on the road against Mariemont.  It’s the first 2 game win streak for the Spartans (4-9 overall, 3-4 ECC) this season.

At home versus Little Miami on Thursday evening the Spartans struck early with senior Claire Klimkowski beating her mark and drilling the shot past the Panther keep.  In the 30th minute junior center back Lucia Johnson launched one from 30 yards out that easily cleared the outstretched arms of the keeper for a 2-0 Spartan lead.  The Spartan defense and keeper Mallory Harsha took over from there, limiting the Little Miami chances in the second half and securing the important conference win, 2-0.

Turpin next went on the road, travelling to neighboring Mariemont for a Saturday afternoon matchup with the SW Ohio 6th ranked girls program for Division III.  The Spartans ignored the polls and jumped on the Warriors from the opening whistle.  Again Klimkowski started the scoring off early beating the defense to the goal, 1-0 Turpin.  Later in the first half we had a Brooke connection.  Senior Brooke Heis placed a shot right on the mark, but the Warrior keeper was able to deflect it.  Sophomore Brooke Wilson corralled the deflection and buried her first career varsity goal to make the score 2-0.  In the second half the Spartans kept up the pressure with junior Sydney Riley scoring twice.  First in the 53rd minute Syd took the perfect cross from Alexandra Johnson and struck gold for the 3-0 lead.  At the 71 minute mark we saw an almost instant replay, this time with Kate Hooper crossing and Riley finishing past the diving keep for the 4-0 Spartan advantage.

The Spartans face some stiff competition in the final weeks of the season, traveling to Kings for a conference matchup on Tuesday, to Fenwick on Saturday for a non-conference game, then ending with conference foe West Clermont on Monday, Oct 11th.  Victories over Kings and West Clermont would put the Spartans over .500 in the ECC this season.
