JV boys soccer vs. Anderson 9/9

Posted on: September 13, 2021
Turpin faced intra-district rivals Anderson on Thursday night and upended their neighbors by a score of 4-0.  After a few nervy opening touches, the Spartans (3-1) settled into the game and exerted their power by way of surging runs, tough tackling and solid finishing.

Forward Zezo Yusef recorded two goals--one a fine solo effort and the other the end product of a 40-yard supporting sprint and deft layoff by Santiago Capetillo.  Teammate Ben Petru notched a goal and an assist.  The final goal was set up by Paxton Burns' lunging poke to Logan Bruenderman, who attacked the near post and crossed in front of goal to teammate Thomas Fariello, which ultimately resulted in the Raptors scoring an own goal.

The Spartans' defense faced pressure but was resolute.  Goalkeeper Nathan Burkhart recorded several fine saves, and the central defensive partnership of Brady Harding and Griffin Jones squelched Anderson's attempts from start to finish.
