Paige Dornheggen did her best Steph Curry impersonation in lighting up the scoreboard with 4 3-point field goals as the JV Spartans rolled to their first victory of the season.  Dornheggen 15 points overall led Turpin (1-4 overall, 1-3 ECC) past the Loveland Tigers 34-23 on December 22nd at Klinger Court.  Nina Birk added 4 points, Kyla Zananiri also added 4 to go along with 7 rebounds and Elizabeth Wullenweber hauled in 7 rebounds.  Turpin dominated the stat sheet.  They outshot the Tigers from the floor (24%-14%, from 3 point range (67%-20%) and from the free throw line (57%-43%).  They out-rebounded the Tigers 37-22, including 15-8 on the offensive glass.  The Spartans also committed more fouls and turned the ball over more than the Tigers, but in a victory those become just things to work on for the next game.

This game actually started out with Loveland dominating the Spartans, and looked to turn ugly early.  The Tigers raced out to a 9-0 lead midway through the 1st quarter before the Spartans settled in.  Birk had a free throw and a basket while Zananiri had a bucket and a pair of free throws to claw their way back in it.  Lauren Dornheggen closed the first with a free throw to cut the Loveland advantage to 1 at 9-8.  Maya Wolfford put the Spartans up for good at 10-9 with a baseline jumper early in the second quarter.  Midway through the second quarter the Paige Show started, and it went on through the end of the 3rd quarter.  During that span, she seemingly could not miss, scoring all 15 of her points in that frame.  It started with a deep 3 from the corner.  On the next Tiger possession, Dornheggen picked the pocket of the Tiger ball handler and went coast to coast, drawing the foul and converting on one of the free throws.  Kate Palmer closed out the half by knifing through the defense for a layup and a 16-12 Spartan lead.

While Dornheggen provided the offense, the Spartan defense clamped down, hard.  After the initial 9 point outburst, Turpin limited Loveland to only 3 points the rest of the half.  In the 3rd quarter, they were almost as good, surrendering only 6 points.  Meanwhile, Paige hit a baseline runner for 2 points, then rattled off 3 consecutive 3 pointers to put the game out of reach, 27-18 at the end of 3.  Birk, Lauren Dornheggen, Elizabeth Wullenweber and Kaci Sheffer took on the scoring duties in the 4th as the Spartans extended their lead to as many as 14 points.  Time expired with the scoreboard showing the first win of the young season for the girls, 34-23.
