The Turpin Spartans and Seton Saints battled to a 1-1 draw on Monday night in their rematch of an early season Spartan win.  Trailing 1-0 with 5 minutes left in the first half, Lilly Peveler received a pass from Kaci Sheffer, made a nifty move around a Seton defender and raced downfield, burying a shot past the diving keeper to even the score.  Turpin (5-3-4 overall, 2-0-2 ECC) turned up their game the rest of the way, keeping Seton off the scoreboard in the second half, but were unable to move ahead themselves.  Grace Aman led a strong defensive effort with 6 tackles as the Spartans responded to early adversity by limiting Seton to 1 shot on goal over the final 55 minutes of the game.

The Saints struck first in this match, pushing a shot past keeper Lily Smith as part of an early 4 shot barrage on the Turpin end of the field.  Brooke Hubbs provided the offensive spark the Spartans needed in the comeback.  The speedy freshman created multiple scoring opportunities using her quickness to cause havoc on the Saints defense.  She had 2 great shots on goal in the first half, only solid keeper play kept her out of the net.  Gabby Seybold also had a good looking shot from the end line turned away from the Saints keeper.  The with 5 minutes left, Peveler worked her way free for the equalizing goal.

The second half momentum and energy belonged on the Turpin sideline.  In addition to Aman’s great defense, Mia Thibodeau had 4 tackles and Sheffer added 3 in forming an impenetrable wall around the Spartan net.  The only shot Seton managed in the second half was a harmless free kick from 25 yards out the Smith easily played.  On the offensive side of the ball, the Spartans swarmed Seton with 8 shots, but just couldn’t find the back of the net.  Hubbs, Peveler and Seybold all had their chances, while Audrey Cissell and Emily Reckers also took good shots.  Even defenders like to shoot the ball, as Aman and Sophia Schiano had nice free kicks from 20 yards away.  After 72 minutes the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Spartans have a quick turnaround this week with matches at Bethel Tate on Tuesday night and their home finale Saturday versus Mount Notre Dame.
