Road Win over Kings Moves JV Maroon to 11-1

After leading Kings by just three points at the half, the JV Maroon Spartans used a 11-0 run in the third quarter to take control of the game and outscored the Knights 22-13 in the second half en route to a 36-24 victory. The road win moved the Spartans to 11-1 on the season.  The frontcourt tandem of Amor Haynes and Melana Bigelow combined to score 19 points to lead the way for Turpin, while MJ MacVeigh tallied eight steals to lead another strong defensive effort from the Spartans.
Bigelow scored the first four points for JV Maroon, who also got a putback from Sara Jordan and a basket from Haynes off of a nice pass from Kennedy Compton in the quarter. Kings was able to get a couple easy baskets and never trailed by more than two points in the first quarter, which ended with Turpin leading 8-6.
The Spartans scored first in the second quarter as well, with Jordan knocking down a pair from the free throw line. Following a Kings jumper, Haynes scored four straight for Turpin, the first on a putback and the second on another assist from Compton. The Knights scored the final three points of the half to cut the lead to 14-11 at the break.
A MacVeigh steal and layup push the lead to 16-11, but Kings made a pair of layups to get with one. From there, the Spartans dominated and scored the final 11 points of the quarter. Bigelow split a pair of free throws before Haynes scored following another offensive rebound. Then MacVeigh picked up a pair of assists, the first to Sophie Holt and the second to Bigelow. Haynes then kicked it out to Hannah Bottoms for a jumper and finished the quarter with a basket of her own. 
The teams traded baskets early in the fourth quarter, as MacVeigh answered a Kings putback with a nice runner in the lane. The Knights hit a three-pointer after a Bigelow putback to cut the lead to 10, but MacVeigh hit another runner to push it back to a 12-point game before Kings hit another shot from long range. The Spartans answered with a three-pointer of their own, as Bottoms knocked one down from the wing for what would be the game's final basket.
