Round 2…Turpin Township!

Posted on: February 13, 2023

The sellout crowd at Klinger Court was treated to a show Friday night!  The Spartans came out swinging and refused to let the Raptors make a 2nd half run.  A perfect senior night and a special performance from Brady Hardewig led the charge as Turpin swept the Raptors with a score of 63-52.  Hardewig scored the Spartans first 7 points with an up and under finish, a strong post move and a step back corner 3 as Turpin led 7-5 early.  Fellow senior Dylan Linton got into the scoring column with a conventional 3 point play.  Hardewig continued to punish the Raptor defense with a pull up 2 point basket to end a 4-0 Raptor run and a 12-11 Spartan lead.  Senior Brad Schauer grabbed an offensive rebound and layed it in before the end of the quarter as Turpin trailed 15-14.

Senior Alex Meyer came off the bench and nailed a wing 3 pointer.  Hardewig continued to attack in the 2nd quarter with 6 free throws and another pull up jumper.  Senior Nate Hayas and Sophomore Shea O’Toole drilled 3 pointers in the quarter as Turpin stretched its lead to 31-22 at the intermission highlighted by 17 first half points from Hardewig.

If the Raptors were thinking about a 2nd half run, the Spartans were not on the same page.  Turpin opened up the 3rd quarter on a 6-0 run with an O’Toole drive to the basket, an O’Toole assist to Linton in the lane and a drive to the hoop from Hardewig as the lead swelled to 37-22 forcing Anderson to call timeout.  Linton had a sweet drive and scoop finish as Turpin was beginning to pull away.  Anderson tried to push the ball up the court, Hardewig would have none of that.  He stole the pass, went behind the back and got the hoop and harm for a 42-24 lead.  Hardewig was not done…he hit a rhythm 3 off the dribble, knocked down 2 free throws and drilled a pull up 3 pointer at the buzzer as Turpin led 50-33 entering the final quarter.

The Spartans scored the first 4 points of the 4th quarter as Hardewig assisted to Schauer and then a spin move of his own and a 54-33 lead.  Linton powered up a layup followed by a conventional 3 point play from Schauer to put the Raptors out of their misery.  Seniors Hayas and Hardewig converted two free throws each as a perfect senior night concluded with a 63-52 victory and a season sweep over that team on Forest Rd!

Brady Hardewig 34 pts,4 rebs, 4 assists, 3 steals

Dylan Linton 9 pts, 3 rebs

Brad Schauer 7 pts, 4 rebs
