Sarah Clark advances to state tennis tournament

Posted on: October 21, 2021

Sarah Clark was the only Spartan advancing on to the state tournament in singles.   The last time was 2016-2019  when Caitlin Fischer went all 4 years of her high school career.   Sarah is only the second singles to advance , with many more of our doubles teams going in the school's history .  Sarah won 2 rounds on Thursday, then came back on Saturday to face last year's state runner up.   She fought hard , but went to the backdraw.   There she faced a girl and battled for 3 sets and ended up winning, which sent her into the state draw as a third place qualifier.    The doubles team of Ellen Benintend and Allie Fermann qualified for districts for the second consecutive year. They battled against a tough Sycamore team, playing their best match of the season, only to fall 5-7 and 4-6.    A good loss, sadly ended their season .   Brooke Malone and Morgan Kaas won their first match round quickly , defeating Miamisburg 6-0  and 6-0.   Then for the second match of the day they were lucky and got to play on the center court at the ATP tennis courts.    They faced a tough Mason team losing the first set in a tiebreaker, and the second a little bit faster.    Another hard fought battle, that didn't turn out the way we wanted, but 4 of these 5 girls are sophomore and will be back again next year.   Next up for Sarah is the state tournament held Friday,  again at the ATP courts.Keep winning and you advance to play on Saturday.
