The gymnasts took it on the road again for the 2nd time this week competing at the Centerville Elks Invitational Meet in Dayton.  In a field of 12 teams, the Spartan’s took 2nd place with a score of 135.5. This was a 1.25 increase over their score at the Troy Invitational just 5 days prior.  It was also 4.5 points higher than the number 3 team. In a sport where scores can be differentiated by 5/10th of a point, a 4.5 point difference is significant!

The Spartans kicked things off on floor.  Amber Russel had a 10.0 start value, the first 10.0 value for the Spartan’s in a long time.  She scored a solid 9.15 which earned her a 3rd place finish. Maycee Herzog took 4th with a 9.10. Natalie Combs and Kassidy Nafziger both scored an 8.6 which help contribute to the team’s strong 35.45 finish.

Moving on to the vault the lady Spartan’s continued to show their skills.  Mayce took 4th with an 8.3 while Serra Tuzun took 5th also with an 8.3 and Anna Grimes placed 7th with an 8.25.  Natalie Combs’ 8.1 also contributed to the team’s vault score.

On bars, the Spar10’s again showed what they are made of.  Maycee earned a solid 8.85 and a 3rd place finish. Elizabeth Miller swung some giants into a 7th place finish with an 8.55.  Rounding out the team score were Serra Tuzun with an 8.35 and Whitney Welling with a 7.75. Overall, a strong bars event for the gymnasts.

Finishing things out on beam, Anna Grimes placed 2nd with an 8.8.  Maycee Herzog took 5th with an 8.6 and Serra Tuzun and Amber Russell each earned an 8.1 to add to the team score of 33.6.

In the all-around, Maycee placed 4th with a 34.85 while Serra took 8th with a 33.2.

Although the ladies are super proud of their accomplishments and their 2nd place finish, the best part of the meet was watching how they all cheer, encourage and support each other.  From a bystanders standpoint, it is very clear how much the ladies enjoy being with one another as a team, as demonstrated by all the TikTok videos’ they made while they waited for the final results!

The Spar10’s will compete this Saturday at the Anderson Win the Day Invitational starting at 10:50a.m.   This meet is just up the street so come cheer on your Spar10 Gymnasts!!
