The Spartans Girls just keep winning, topping Walnut Hills in the conference opener 4-2.  Turpin (3-0-0 overall, 1-0-0 ECC) defeated the Eagles on their own field for the 3rd straight time dating to last season and are off to their best start in 5 years.  Senior captain Lucia Johnson put on a show for the fans with a hat trick, while her fellow captain Kate Hooper had the other goal.  Alex Johnson had the only assist for the Spartans.
Hooper, wearing jersey number 8 scored in the eighth minute of the contest to give Turpin the 1-0 lead, taking the cross from Alex Johnson and delivering the goal.  Walnut kept things close, barely getting one by keeper Mallory Harsha in the 31st minute to tie the score at 1 heading to the half.  Coming out of the break the Spartans were fired up, playing with amazing energy and intensity.  None more so than Lucia Johnson, who scored off a corner kick in the 42nd minute to put Turpin on top to stay.  2 minutes later Johnson again found the back of the net on a direct kick from 30 yards out.  It took Lucia all of 10 more minutes to complete the natural hat trick, dribbling around defenders and launching a score from 18 yards out in the 54th minute.  Walnut closed out the scoring in the 73rd minute with a goal off of a direct kick, but the Spartan defense shut them down afterwards, with the final margin staying at 4-2.
Turpin gets a week off before facing ECC foe Winton Woods at home on Tuesday, August 30th.
