Taylor Bliss vs Winton Woods

The Turpin Spartans rode a wave of offense, led by junior Kate Hooper’s goal and 2 assists, to a 7-0 defeat of the Winton Woods Warriors on Tuesday evening.  On a dreary, rainy evening Turpin (2-7 overall, 2-3 ECC) broke from their season-long offensive slump and controlled the match from the outset.  Senior Eva Yeulling had a goal and an assist, while freshman Avery Ackel scored her first varsity points and added an assist in the victory.

The Spartans struck early and often.  At the 6 minute mark, Hooper fed Claire Klimkowski and klim, kow, ka-pow!  Spartan goal, 1-0.  At the 12 minute mark freshman Alanna Schmelzer found the goal, assisted by Yuellig.  It was Schmelzer’s first career score.  26 minutes into it Sydney Riley notched her second goal of the season, assisted by Hooper, making the score 3-0.  Hooper got her team leading 4tyh goal of the season, assist on the play going to Lucia Johnson.  Turpin finished the first half scoring moments later with Ackel scoring unassisted to make it 5-0.

The second half Spartan team focus on playing defense and moving the ball offensively.  At the start, the lineup featured all 6 Spartan seniors on the field at the same time.  Keely McCosh put on a ball handling exhibition in the 53rd minute, dribbling through a crowd of 4 defenders looking to create an offensive chance.  Her moves drew plenty of oohs and awes from the Turpin sideline and crowd.  In the 62’ minute freshman Marin Davidson hit her first varsity goal with the assist from Ackel to make the score 6-0.  The senior Yuelling capped the day off with her first varsity goal, unassisted, in the 70th minute.

Turpin returns to action on Saturday, 9/25 with an afternoon tilt against the Lakota West Firebirds in a non-conference matchup.  JV Gold kicks off at 1:00 and Varsity takes the field at 3:00.
