Kate the Great on the Breakaway

Kate Hooper scored twice, Brooke Wilson scored once and Mallory Harsha turned in a clean sheet as the Turpin Spartans girls soccer team went north to Bishop Fenwick and earned a 3-0 victory.  Turpin (6-9 overall, 4-4 ECC) won for the 4th time in a row.  Taylor Bliss, Grace Henning and Alanna Schmelzer each notched an assist while Kaci Sheffer led the defense with 3 tackles won.

Turpin overwhelmed the home team early and often in this match.  Just 2 minutes into the game Henning found Hooper with the cross in front of the Fenwick goal.  The Falcon keeper initially deflected her shot, but she stayed with it and put the rebound through the posts for a 1-0 Spartan lead.  Turpin maintained the attack, in the 7th minute Brooke Heis ripped a nice shot the went just over the crossbar.  In the 15th and 20th minute, Fenwick fouls resulted in free kicks for Turpin.  Lucia Johnson put one on goal while the second went just wide.  In the 25th minute Schmelzer fed the ball forward to Hooper and Kate did the rest, putting the Spartans up 2-0.  Sydney Riley had a chance to add to the lead in the 28th minute as she got free of the defense and fired on the Falcon goalie.  Her first effort rebounded right back to her for a second go, this time the keeper hauled in the close range blast.  In the 33rd minute Turpin set up for a corner kick with Bliss launching the high arcing shot.  Wilson timed it perfectly, leaping and taking the header past a diving goalie for the 3-0 Spartan lead at halftime.

With a 3-0 lead, the Spartans were still able to control the tempo of the second half, working the ball deep into the Fenwick end for multiple shot opportunities.  The defense kept everything in front of them and limited the Falcons to only 1 shot on goal in the second half.  When the final horn sounded, Turpin had the 3-0 road win and a 4 game winning streak.  Turpin rturns home on Monday, Oct 11th for their final regular season match, this one against conference opponent West Clermont.  The match will be Senior Night as we honor our amazing senior players on the field before the match.
