Spartans skewer the Winton Woods Warriors

The Warriors of WW came to Klinger court for a make-up game during the December break.
Klinger was buzzing,  the student section showed up in their PJs.
 
1st quarter
Turpin started off fast with buckets by Hardewig(8) and Marathe(2) for a blistering 10-0 lead. Hardewig was on fire- connecting from 3 multiple times. Turpin D was stingy, forcing WW into bad shots. McHale was strong in the post, getting fouled and making 2/2 FTs. Hardewig made another 3 for a 15-0 Turpin lead. WW started exerting full court pressure- but Turpin beat it each time.
End of 1st 17-8
 
2nd quarter
WW continued with full court pressure. But Turpin moved the ball well, with a pass down low- Marathe to Hayas for 2.
WW kept missing contested shots, credit the Turpin D. Turpin again with good ball movement in half court, Hayas fouled down low, made 2/2 FTs. Full court pressure again from WW, broken. McHale drove, drawing the defenders and out to Marathe for a corner 3. Good ball movement against the press, scoring down low and from behind the arc extended Turpin's lead. Going into the half- the Spartans were up 32-18.
 
3rd quarter
WW started off the scoring in the 2nd half, closing the gap 33-22. They gave up full court pressure. Hardewig on the attack - drove into the paint, smooth floater for 2 and the foul. He made the FT for a 3pt play. Terhorst drove the baseline, pass fake, creating an opening for a basket down low. WW made the mistake of giving McHale too much space. He took advantage with a power dunk, whipping the crowd into a frenzy.  WW with improved outside shooting - closed the gap and gained some momentum. Good ball movement for Turpin in their half-court offense, Marathe for a 3 pointer. After a WW basket he drove the lane, shot blocked, but Terhorst with a rebound and nice touch off the glass for 2. Again good ball movement in the half court offense, Hardewig for 3 and the foul for a 4 pt play!  On the next possession, he was hungry for more-with a hard drive, lots of contact, fouled, made 2/2. 
 
4th quarter
Turpin up 51-37
McHale showing his range -drained a 3, with a nice assist from Hardewig. Turpin moved into a 2/3 zone changing the tempo. WW kept it interesting, connecting from behind the arc multiple times. Marathe got into the lane- finding Selfridge for 3
Terhorst drove the baseline, basket down low. Hardewig did it the hard way- getting to the rim, fouled and made 2/2.
McHale sped down the court - power move, imminent dunk but was slowed at the last min- nice touch for 2. Hardewig once again fouled going to the hoop, made 2/2. Linton grabbed the offensive rebound, fouled, made 2/2 FTs.Turpin with a nice margin with 2 min left. Able to wrap up the W without any drama.
Final score Turpin 69-56.
