Spartans Split Series with First Place Kings

The Spartans split their series with the conference leading Kings Knights. They lost the first one brutally, 16-4, but bounced back and won the second matchup 2-1. With their win over Kings, the Spartans still have a longshot chance at tying Kings for conference champion.

Despite jumping out to the early 1-0 lead on Kings in game one (thanks to a home run from Justin Silverstein), the Spartans lost the game after giving up three big innings. Kings scored seven runs in the second inning, four in the fourth, and five more in the fifth. Although, Turpin had six hits, they weren't able to match the Knights' sixteen runs. Notable performers for the Spartans included Justin Silverstein (3/3 with a home run, two doubles, and four RBI) and Connor Stout (2/2 with two runs scored).

In game two the Spartans sent their ace, Peter Henkel, to the mound. Henkel was nothing short of dominant, throwing a complete game with six strikeouts. The game was a pitchers' duel and featured no scoring until the fourth inning when Tyler Gambill scored on a single to centerfield; this would be Kings' only run. The Spartans came back in the sixth and scored two of their own thanks to an RBI single from Peter Henkel and suicide squeeze from Nick Kapostasy. Henkel came back out with complete control and closed the game out to secure the 2-1 victory. Notable performers included Peter Henkel (CG pitched, six strikeouts, and 1/3 at the plate with an RBI), Nick Kapostasy (one RBI), and Jack Lambert (2/3).

With this win the Spartans keep their conference champion dream alive. In order to win a share of the conference they must sweep Milford along with Anderson sweeping Kings.
