Turpin erased an early 8-0 deficit to come from behind and defeat the scrappy Tigers of Loveland.  The victory gives the Spartans sole possession of first place in the ECC early in league play.  Brady Hardewig got Turpin going with 6 straight points which included a nice pull up jumper, a wing 3 point field goal and a free throw.  Senior Dom Cantrella then contributed two free throws after a strong drive to the hoop.  Matt Sheffer came off the bench and drilled a straight away 3 point basket as Turpin trailed 15-11.  I am willing to bet Cantrella has hit more buzzer beaters in his career than any other Spartan!  This time he nailed a wing 3 just before the 1st quarter buzzer to trim the Loveland lead to 17-14.  The first quarter ended with a combined total of 10 fouls called?

Turpin grabbed its first lead of the game with 4:50 left in the 2nd quarter 20-19 after a strong drive for 2 by Theissen Lee and 2 free throws by Hardewig.  Two more free throws by Hardewig and 2 from Lee tied the game at 24.  A steal by Cantrella led to a lay up for him thanks to a nice fast break assist from Matt Johnson right before halftime and the game was tied at 26.

Loveland opened the 3rd quarter with a 5-0 run to take a 31-26 lead.  Back to back baskets from Cantrella and Hardewig trimmed the Tiger lead to 1 point.  The 3rd quarter was very low scoring with Loveland outscoring Turpin 7-4 in the quarter to take a 33-30 lead entering the final quarter.

Turpin once again found themselves in a hole down 37-31 midway thru the 4th quarter.  Two HUGE back to back 3 point baskets tied the game at 37.  Hardewig then went to work on defense jumping into the passing lane that resulted in a steal with just under two minutes to go in the contest.  Hardewig was then fouled and calmly hit both free throws.  Turpin then got another defensive stop and this time Cantrella was fouled.  He also calmly sank both free throws to take a 41-37 lead.  Cantrella and Hardewig again went 2-2 each from the free throw line in the closing seconds to ice the game and defeat the visiting Tigers 45-39.
