Spartans Top Eagles 10-9 in Walk-Off Fashion

After losing three straight games to Oak Hills, Walnut Hills, and Kings, the Spartans secured a win against Walnut Hills. The high scoring affair featured a collective thirty one hits and nineteen total runs. Nick McLaughlin led the Spartans, reaching base six times in a 4/4 performance. Austin Hartley, Connor Stout, Jack Lambert, and Colin Bernard also had multiple hits for Turpin.

Walnut Hills jumped out to an early lead after Max Davenport tagged up to score a run in the first inning. They would tack on another in the second inning, but that wouldn't be enough to hold off the Spartans. In the bottom of the second, Turpin scored three runs to take a 3-2 lead thanks to RBI from Jack Lambert, Nick Langan, and Justin Silverstein. In the top of the third, the Eagles scored another run but the Spartans quickly retaliated by adding to their lead with three more runs in the bottom of the inning. They tacked on runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth to extend the lead to 9-3 heading into the top of the seventh inning.

Walnut Hills would not go down without a fight, however; starting the inning out with two singles, a walk, a HBP, and another single, the Eagles clawed their way back and managed to knot the game at nine runs a piece heading into the bottom of the seventh. After the Spartans failed to produce a run to win the game, they called to their ace, Peter Henkel, to carry them through the eighth inning. He proceeded to throw a beautiful inning on only eleven pitches to send the game to the bottom of the eighth.

The Spartans put together a one out walk and two hits to advance Justin Silverstein to third with the game on the line. Coach Gullett called to Max Kline to pinch hit and he delivered with a first pitch walkoff single. The team stormed the field to celebrate with Kline and then shook hands with the Eagles.

The Spartans advanced to an 11-7 record, sitting at 7-4 in the conference.
