The Spartans began the New Year with a big game, taking on cross-town rival Anderson. This game was a special one for the Spartans who were celebrating Senior Night, honoring their one and only senior, Brooke Painter. The game started with the opening tip going in favor of Turpin. Shortly after, the Spartans got on the board first with a basket by Cecelia Hilgefort. The Spartans' strong defense in the first quarter held Anderson to only 4 points. The ladies were also able to capitalize offensively, going on an 11-0 run to bring their first-quarter score to 13.  In the second quarter, two quick steals by Hilgefort added 4 more points to the team's total. Anderson came into the second quarter fired up, though, and quickly went on a 9-0 run following 3 three-pointers. This would bring the halftime score to 23-13, in favor of the Spartans. The Spartans maintained their lead throughout the entirety of the second half, with Ella Mehring and Sophia Schiano adding points down low. The team's stellar performance, including 32 rebounds, 12 steals, and 18 points of turnovers, proved to be enough for a huge victory over Anderson, winning by a final score of 44-28. Cecelia Hilgefort led the team with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Sophia Schiano (10 points, 3 rebounds) and Claire Klimkowski (8 points, 5 rebounds) also added to the team's effort. With the win, the Spartans continue their winning streak, which now sits at six in a row.
