Turpin’s Elizabeth Chamberlin and Alyssa Haverstraw Move on to 2019 Ohio Division I District Golf Tournament!

Posted on: October 3, 2019

The Top 5 Lady Spartan players competed in the 2019 Ohio Sectional Golf Tournament hosted by Walden Ponds Golf Course on Monday. The players started on the 10th hole of the back nine, on what turned out to be a scorching 95-degree weather endurance test. What an exciting outcome for Turpin Senior, Elizabeth Chamberlin, who carded her best ever 18-hole high school score of 80. And cheers for Junior Alyssa Haverstraw for marking a fabulous 84. This is the first time that two players from Turpin High School Women’s Golf Team have made it to Districts in the same year. Elizabeth and Alyssa finished 12th and 17th out of 83 players, earning both of them a promotion to compete at the Ohio Girls Division I District Golf Tournament at Beavercreek Golf Course on October 10th.
Demonstrating the best skills of the most dedicated student of the game, Elizabeth Chamberlin placed herself firmly in contention to become an OSHAA District competitor with a confident 41 on the back nine, followed by a jaw-dropping 39. It’s no surprise that Elizabeth has already committed to play golf in college at Transylvania University in Lexington, KY next fall.
Junior Alyssa Haverstraw overcame a challenging first hole to post a strong 44. She then brought every courageous shot she had to produce an outstanding 40, securing her spot at the District tournament.  Congratulations to Elizabeth and Alyssa and the Good Luck at Districts !!!
Turpin’s Team score of 380 placed the Lady Spartans 8th out of 18 teams, a notable finish at Sectionals. Skylar Huster and Margot Swartz pressed through tough rounds today. Abby Montague bravely contended until the heat got the better of her late in the match.
