Turpin dealt first loss of the season
The highly touted Walnut Hills Eagles came to Klinger for a matchup of the top ECC teams. The Klinger crazies were ready to rock the place. Hardewig started off RED hot! His first 6 pts were made inside the arc, penetrating the Eagles defense time after time. This was followed by a deep 3 over their big man for a 9-5 lead! Terhorst got it done with a nifty move into the lane for 2. End of 1st quarter Tuprin up 11-9.
The Eagles started the 2nd with full-court pressure. The Spartans were able to beat it down the floor. Terhorst with a corner 3!! Turpin up 14-13. McHale worked hard on the baseline for a tough 2. But the Eagles press started paying dividends. Their length and speed were tough. But the Spartans were able to hang, with Hardewig's defense and offense. He  saved  the ball under our basket, then connected with a 3 on the other side. Game tied at 21. But the Eagles continued their offensive prowess for a lead going into the half, Turpin 21-25.
3rd quarter. Hardewig  scored with a smooth fade away from the elbow. This was followed by good ball movement in the half-court, Selfridge to Terhorst for a bucket down low. Eagles kept up the full court press, but it was broken. McHale showed his range with a 3! Hardewig again sliced through the Eagles defense for a layup. But Turpin still down 30-32.  Eagles with good defense in the half-court, but Turpin stayed disciplined, good ball movement to Selfridge for a 3! Turpin defense tried to slow the big man on the other end of the court. McHale with a block into the stands. Turpin down 34-39 ,end of 3rd.
Turpin didn't give up. McHale with a steal,  passed down the court , Hardewig with a deep 3 over their big again, to close the gap. Selfridge hit another 3 giving Turpin the lead 40-39. The teams traded baskets, McHale with a 3 ball. Hardewig got it done from deep and down low, lots of contact, made the basket, foul for the 3 pt play! Turpin up 46-44 with 4 minutes left. Teams traded baskets but Eagles hitting their 3s. Turpin down 47-49 with 1:45 left. Eagles tried to pad their lead, but Terhorst put his body on the line-drew a charge!! The ensuing bedlam must have set off the Fire Alarm. Unbelievable- the court and stands were cleared for the  Fire Dept!! 
After a long delay the game resumed. Turpin had its chances but unable to convert on 2 trips down the floor. They had to foul to get back possession.  Eagles converted on 1/2 FTs, Turpin 47-50. With 9 seconds left, Hardewig with another deep 3, a blistering performance! Turpin down  50-51. He certainly made the Eagles sweat. Turpin had to foul again. Eagles made both FTs for a 3 pt lead. Less than 3 seconds left, quick inbounds for Turpin, but they were unable to hit the full-court buzzer-beater.
