Turpin goes on the road to beat West Clermont

The Spartans started the new year with another conference win.  Senior Colin McHale got the scoring started with a nice spin move in the lane and Junior Brady Hardewig followed that up with a basket of his own to make it 4-0 Turpin.  Senior Deven Marathe then used a nice crossover move to beat his defender and went in for the layup for a 6-2 Spartan lead.  After Senior Jarin Terhorst came away with a steal, Hardewig finished strong in the lane and a short time later made a couple free throws to put Turpin up 10-5. The quarter would end at 12-5 after Junior Dylan Linton put back his own rebound for the score.  Turpin continued to have success in the 2nd quarter.  McHale scored on back to back drives in the lane and then followed that up with a nice assist to Senior Jack Selfridge for an easy layup.  Selfridge then showed off a nice spin move and hit a bucket off the glass to put Turpin up 20-9.  After McHale hit a couple free throws, Junior Nate Hayas showed off his defensive skills by taking a charge and getting the block and steal on back to back possessions.  Coming off a timeout, Selfridge hit a 3 to push the lead to 25-11.  Marathe kept things going with a nice drive and finish.  Mchale then ended the half on a high note by hitting a 3 at the buzzer.  Spartans led at the half 30-16.

West Clermont came out strong in the 2nd half, cutting the lead to 30-11 until Terhorst hit a free throw to break the Spartan drought.  Turpin then traded 3's with West Clermont as McHale hit a 3 and then drove in the lane for the basket plus the free throw to make it 37-27.  Turpin went on a run of their own with a couple of layups from Terhorst and 4 foul shots from Hardewig to make it 45-29.  The 3rd quarter would end with the Spartans up 45-32.  West Clermont tried to make a game of it by hitting 3's but Selfridge hit one of his own and then Terhorst fought for a loose ball and found Marathe for another 3 and a 51-38 Turpin lead.  McHale capped things off with a steal and dunk and the Spartans went on to win 56-43.

Turpin was led by Senior Colin McHale with 20 points.  Fellow Senior Jack Selfridge added 10 points and Junior Brady Hardewig matched him with 10 points.
