Turpin Varsity Beats Lebanon 2-0

Posted on: September 20, 2021

Turpin’s Varsity Boys Soccer visited ECC foe Lebanon on Thursday, September 16.  In a closely contested game, the Spartans relied on a solid defense and offense from “The Carter Show” in the form of second-half goals from junior midfielder Carter Flora and senior midfielder Carter Young, earning the Spartans their first league victory of the season.

Turpin had the better of play in the first half, but headed to halftime with a scoreless tie. But the Spartans started fast in the second half, just minutes in, when Flora scored, assisted by sophomore midfielder Jonah Burns.  From there the play was more balanced, with Turpin continuing to threaten the Warriors goal, while senior keeper Max Kovall and the Spartan defense held Lebanon at bay.  Then, with six minutes left, a high cross by senior Nathan Hart was punched by the Lebanon goalie, but Young was in the perfect position to head it home and seal a 2-0 victory for the Spartans.

Turpin moved to 2-4-2 on the season.  Their next game is at Spartan Stadium at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 21 against ECC foe Winton Woods.
