With a stingy defense and a relentless attack, Turpin’s Varsity Boys Soccer won its second consecutive ECC match on Thursday, September 23 over Winton Woods 3-0 at Spartan Stadium.

Turpin started quickly, controlling play and creating chances. With 8 minutes to go in the first half, sophomore forward Brody Blazer pounced on an error by the Warrior defense and put it in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead that they took into halftime.  The second half was more of the same.  Turpin maintained the assault on Winton Woods’ goal, forcing several spectacular saves by the Warriors’ goalkeeper.  At the same time, the Turpin defense stood firm and kept a clean sheet, with senior keeper Max Kovall making several good saves and freshman defender Sam Kiggins sitting in the pocket of Winton Woods star striker Zayid Lahbabi the entire game, holding him in check.  The Spartans eventually scored two insurance goals on penalty kicks, with junior forward Carter Flora drawing a foul in the box and sending home the resulting penalty kick with 28 minutes to go, and sophomore forward Kyle Suter doing the same with 16 minutes left.  The result was a 3-0 win for the Spartans.

Turpin moved to 3-4-2 on the season, evening their ECC record at 2-2-1.  Their next game is at Spartan Stadium at 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 25 against Oak Hills.
