Turpin Varsity Defeats Little Miami 2-0

Posted on: October 4, 2021

Turpin’s Varsity Boys Soccer traveled to Little Miami on Thursday, September 30 for an away ECC match, and came away with a 2-0 victory.

Turpin largely controlled play in the first half, keeping the ball in the Little Miami end and creating multiple chances. Twelve minutes in the Spartan pressure paid off, with sophomore Jonah Burns scoring on a volley following a throw-in.  Turpin took the resulting 1-0 lead into halftime.

Little Miami came out of halftime on the attack, and put pressure on the Turpin defense.  But the Spartans’ back line (led by senior Aidan Combssophomore Owen Berndt and freshman Brady Harding) combined with senior keeper Max Kovall to keep the Panthers out of the Spartan goal for a clean sheet. Then the Spartans put away the game thanks to a tremendous individual effort by sophomore forward Kyle Suter, who dribbled through and around multiple Little Miami defenders in the box before slotting home a goal to give the Spartans a well-earned 2-0 victory.

With their fourth win in five games, Turpin evened its record to 5-5-2 on the season, while evening their ECC record at 3-3-1.  Their next game is at Spartan Stadium at 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 2 against the number 1 ranked Division III team in Ohio, Madeira.
