Two State Champs!

This past Friday and Saturday concluded the track and field season with the state meet in Columbus.  And as with any competition, there were thrilling and disappointing outcomes.  On the thrilling side, Gabe Hickman and Paul Signorelli came away with a state title in the shot put and pole vault respectively.  Gabe's winning throw proved also to be the best that any shot putter in the city of Cincinnati has EVER produced.  Gabe returned on Saturday to place 4th in the discus even though he fouled on all three of his finals throws.  Paul and Gabe's points earned (25) were enough for the boys team to place 4th in the state, which is the highest ever placement by a Turpin boy's team.  Friday did also have some heartbreak.  Mae Reed, who was destined to make the finals in the 300 hurdles was disqualified after an official said she never came to a resting set position in the blocks.  Mae will be back with a vengeance next year.  And on Saturday, Ella Lambert succumbed to the heat in the 1600m run.  Competing against a tough field, Ella gave everything she had to place 10th.  A great weekend for Turpin Track and Field!
