Win Against Panthers Marks Three in a Row!

The Spartans were back home for an ECC matchup against the Panthers from Little Miami. The game started off with an early three pointer from Brooke Painter but the Panthers quickly took the lead following a couple of three pointers on their behalf. The Panthers went into the first quarter break leading by a score of 17-9. The second quarter, the Spartans had some trouble getting shots to fall but their strong defense kept them within 6 of the Panthers at the half. The second half started with a fast basket by the Panthers, putting them up by 8, but the Spartans answered quickly with two baskets by Cecelia Higlefort. Brooke Painter followed with a three pointer, putting the Spartans within one. Painter then tied the game up at 35 with a pair of free throws a few minutes later. The Spartans then went up three following the three point bucket by Haley Richardson. Claire Klimkowski started off the fourth quarter with a layup to add to the team's lead. The Panthers continued to play strong defense, playing a full court press, but the Spartans were able to fight through it to maintain their lead. The Spartans missed some opportunities to add points to their score from the free throw line, but the second half effort proved to be exactly what they needed to prevail over the Panthers. The Spartans won by a final score of 55-47. Cecelia Hilgefort led the team with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Brooke Painter and Ella Mehring added 16 points and 6 points respectively. Sophia Schiano contributed to the team's defensive effort with 6 defensive rebounds and 9 total rebounds. The Spartans win is their third in a row and brings their season record to 5-3.
